OpenAI is looking for a Head of Asia-Pacific, Global Affairs, to lead policy, partnerships, and government engagement across the APAC region.
In this senior leadership role, you’ll guide regional policy strategies, represent OpenAI at high-level forums, and build relationships with leaders across governments, academia, and industry. You’ll also work closely with OpenAI’s global teams — from research to legal — ensuring that policy, technology, and mission all move in the same direction.
This is a highly strategic, visible, and impactful role that will help shape how AI is used and governed across the Asia-Pacific.

About the Team
OpenAI’s Global Affairs team plays a critical role in shaping how artificial intelligence is developed and governed worldwide. The team builds relationships with governments, regulators, civil society leaders, and international organizations to ensure that AI benefits everyone — safely and responsibly.
By collaborating with policymakers, researchers, and communities, the Global Affairs team helps create frameworks and standards that promote ethical AI use and support innovation that aligns with human values.
What You’ll Do
Campaigns & Partnerships
- Build and lead major partnerships with governments, universities, NGOs, and industry groups.
- Develop cross-country campaigns that encourage responsible AI adoption and education.
- Advance initiatives that align with OpenAI’s mission of ensuring AI benefits humanity.
Policy & Government Engagement
- Represent OpenAI to senior government leaders, ministers, and regulators.
- Track and influence emerging AI legislation and policy trends across APAC.
- Partner with governments on infrastructure and AI-related national programs.
Strategy & Collaboration
- Set and execute OpenAI’s Global Affairs strategy for the APAC region.
- Work cross-functionally with research, legal, product, and communications teams.
- Advise global leadership on policy risks, opportunities, and regional priorities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Manage and mentor a diverse regional team of policy professionals.
- Build a culture of integrity, collaboration, and innovation across multiple countries.
Representation & Advocacy
- Speak at high-level forums, conferences, and media events.
- Serve as a trusted voice for responsible and inclusive AI development.
What You’ll Bring
- 15+ years of experience in government, technology policy, international affairs, or corporate diplomacy.
- Strong relationships with policymakers, regulators, and institutions in the APAC region.
- Proven ability to lead complex policy campaigns and influence legislation.
- Deep understanding of AI, data privacy, competition, and digital policy issues.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Experience managing multi-country teams and working across functions.
- High ethical standards and sound political judgment.
Work Model
- Based in Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, or Delhi
- Hybrid role — 3 days in the office each week
- Regular regional travel expected
